Cooperation with Foundations

•The division continued to maintain relations and academic exchanges with academic research institutions of China, and to advance academic research between the two sides. This was done through inviting academic scholars from China to visit the division, and was achieved largely through the support of Mainland Affairs Council’s Chinese Development Fund and China Tide Foundation. •Under the support of Mainland Affairs Council’s Chinese Development Fund and China Tide Foundation, the division was able to invite Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Political Sciences’ research fellow Shi Weimin, The World and China Institute’s director Zhang Lifan, and Chinese Academy of Social Sciences Institute of Political Sciences’ research fellow Bai Gang to visit the division to conduct academic research. Their research fields were Chinese grassroots political power, including rural autonomy and community development. This was especially advantageous to the division because it was able to better understand the development of Chinese grassroots politics, and to establish its reputation in this research field. •Under the support of China Tide Foundation, the division invited Professor Wang Yong from Peking University’s International Politics Department to visit the division. Professor Wang Yong’s research specialization is on China’s admission to the World Trade Organization (WTO) and other related topics, including domestic politics and economics, and its implications for the world economy. By continuing to invite scholars whose research is on China to visit the division, this allows the division to expand its research in the field of Chinese politics.
