IIR has long been committed to fostering dialogue between international relations theory and practice while cultivating strategic partnerships and knowledge transfer between Taiwanese and transnational think tanks to enhance policy analysis. In 2020, IIR was recognized and included in the Global Go-To Think Tank Index Report, published by the University of Pennsylvania, earning a place among the Top 25 Think Tanks in Southeast Asia and the Pacific region.
In 2018, IIR established the International Consortium for Contemporary China Studies, creating a global academic network for contemporary China studies. The alliance includes IIR, along with Australian National University’s China in the World Center, University of Sydney’s China Studies Centre, University of California, Berkeley’s Institute of East Asian Studies, University of British Columbia’s Institute of Asian Research, Waseda University’s Comprehensive Research Organization, Keio University’s Institute of East Asian Studies, and Yonsei University’s Yonsei Institute for Sinology, spanning six countries and eight institutions. This alliance serves as a key global academic network for research on China and East Asia. At the same time, since 2018, IIR has also taken over as the Secretariat of the Consortium for Southeast Asian Studies in Asia, with IIR’s Center for Southeast Asian Studies leading the initiative. The alliance promotes collaborative research and academic exchanges on Southeast Asian studies among 13 leading research institutions across 10 Asian countries.
Recently, in response to the global geopolitical focus on the Indo-Pacific region, IIR has strengthened its collaboration with academic institutions and think tank communities in South Asia and Oceania. At the same time, IIR has also deepened exchanges with major think tanks in Europe and North America through research on Indo-Pacific issues.
